In Foundation Stage 1 the children are encouraged to become independent learners and critical thinkers.
The ways in which the children in Foundation Stage 1 engage with other people, including their peers and the learning environment underpin the learning and development across all areas of learning and support the children to remain an effective and motivated learner. We hope to encourage the children in the setting to play and explore, be an active learner and create and think critically, through the seven areas of learning which include:
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Physical Development
- Communication and Language
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
In Foundation Stage 1 we focus on the Prime areas of learning which are Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development and Communication and Language.
In order to support all our children's language development, it is important that they quickly learn a broad vocabulary. This enables them to be able to understand the learning in nursery and be able to express themselves and communicate their needs. Being an effective commuicator will also support them to form relationships with their peers.
In order to do this, each half-term, the teaching activities and resources will be based on a specific theme, which focuses on useful, new language. The children will have lots of opportunity to practice their newly acquired language skills through their play and supported activities with staff, as well as resources to help them practice at home.
This term the language we will be focusing on is parts of the body, clothes and homes. The books we will be using to support this will be :
Buster Gets Dressed
Washing Line
Goldilocks and the Three Bears
