Hello,

We’ve made a great start to the Autumn 2 Term at Netherthorpe and the children continue to amaze us with their attitudes, hard work and learning. There has been lots of exciting work going on and the children have really been motoring with their learning now the school year is well under way.

As you will hopefully be aware, the school has celebrated 150 Years of existence and many parents and carers joined us to celebrate this special event. We had a wonderful day. The whole school went back in time and pupils and staff played the roles of Victorian children and adults. The costumes were fantastic and all kids and staff enjoyed getting into their roles.

As part of our celebrations, we showcased all our learning about the history of the school and the local area. We set up The Great Exhibition in the sports hall and filled it with art, sculpture, writing and historical documents. Parents and carers were invited to come and look at all the fantastic work the children had produced and learn about how our school has changed over the years!

In the morning, we had a very special visit from the Lord Mayor of Sheffield who was escorted by pupils around The Great Exhibition and was then treated to a performance of different songs, rhymes and dances by our pupils. He was blown away by everything the children had produced and was fascinated by the history of our unique school. After the performances, he spoke to the pupils and unveiled a special new story chair which has been purchased to celebrate this momentous occasion!

After a lunchtime, which involved some authentic Victorian drill practice, the whole school went on a drum accompanied march around the local area to show off all their amazing costumes and to celebrate the school’s special day! Many parents and carers came along with us to join in the fun!

The excitement did not stop there as to end the day pupils, staff, parents and carers all enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea of cucumber sandwiches and scones!

We need to say a huge thank you to all the children of Netherthorpe for their efforts in dressing up, getting into the spirit of the day and for making our wonderful school the amazing place it is.

We must give a huge thank you to all the parents and carers for ensuring that all the kids looked amazing, for coming to join in the celebrations and for their continued support of the school and their children’s learning.

Finally, we must thank all the staff at school for their hard work to create such an enriching and enjoyable experience for the pupils.

Here’s to a fantastic rest of the half-term!
