In Foundation Stage 1 the children are encouraged to become independent learners and critical thinkers, therefore our curriculum is child-led. This means we will explore and develop children’s own thoughts and interests. Lastly, we will observe the characteristics of the children’s learning, for instance whether a child shows curiosity about objects, events and people.

The ways in which the children in Foundation Stage 1 engage with other people, including their peers and the learning environment underpin the learning and development across all areas of learning and support the children to remain an effective and motivated learner. We hope to encourage the children in the setting to play and explore, be an active learner and create and think critically, through the seven areas of learning which include:

  1. Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  2. Physical Development
  3. Communication and Language
  4. Literacy
  5. Mathematics
  6. Understanding the World
  7. Expressive Arts and Design

In Foundation Stage 1 we focus on the Prime areas of learning which are Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development and Communication and Language.

This half term will be focusing on getting to know the children and begin to build positive relationships with them. We hope to make them feel secure in order for them to feel safe, happy and ultimately want to come to nursery every day to learn. We will  carry observations on the  children in the setting, which in turn will aid us in making better judgments when it comes to assessing them.

Our topic, this half term is Autumn, and what happens around us as the season changes from Summer into Autumn. We will also be  learning the story of going on a little red hen. Please watch the video below.

The little red hen

In the next few weeks, the children should even be able to join in!

We will be learning to look out for the aigns of Autumn as well as finding out about what happens during Harvest time!

We will also be reading the story "Washing line" and learning the vocabularly " Wearing, Hanging, Scarf, Socks, Dress, Pants, jumper, coat, trousers, t-shirt, hat, shorts, Dry, Wet, Washing, Splashing, Drying". Below is a video of the story.
