At Netherthorpe School, we want our children to grow up into confident, responsible, capable and independent individuals. We do this through the lessons we teach and the extra opportunities offered.

BREAKFAST CLUB ~ Supported by Greggs the Bakers, this club goes from strength to strength. As well as providing a healthy start to the day, it is an important time for pupils to meet up, chat and play quiet games. It is a great opportunity for children to develop their social and communication skills. Although it is run and co-ordinated by our Learning Mentor Amanda Bonnington, it would not succeed if there was not the support of parents and grandparents from our community, which include Arabic and Somali speakers, who reflect our multicultural heritage. The club also ensures that children get to school on time and are ready for the start of the day's work.

LUNCH TIME CLUBS ~ Netherthorpe is keen to develop children's interest in sporting activities. The skill and health benefits are positive bonuses to the main objective of having fun! There is a girls

football team and boys cricket club as well as mixed football and cross country practice. During the summer athletics is also offered.

At certain times of the year, there is a choir, steel band and drama club. Some of the Y6 pupils are developing a school newspaper. A science club also challenges our young 'Einsteins'. For pupils who receive a 'Gold Award' for their positive attitude to school life, there is an 'Always' club, which offers a choice of craft activities.

AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS ~ There is a wide variety of prospects for the development of children's interests after school. Sheffield Wednesday FC offer a mixed football club which is keenly attended. Many clubs are supported by "Netherthorpe and Upperthorpe Community Alliance" (NUCA). Amongst these we have a Skipping club which competes nationally. Other activities include crown bowls, creative crafts and mixed sports. Some of our parents are receiving training to enable them to run these classes. In school, we also run a French club to continue the language work done in lessons.
